Approximately 36,000 people get diagnosed with oral cancer in the United States every year. Like many cancers, oral cancer may not have any symptoms until it has spread beyond its initial site. At each examination we check patients for oral cancer. If there’s an area of concern we will advise a biopsy for it. Early detection reduces the need for more invasive treatment and improves survival rates. Certain factors increase the risk of oral cancer including smoking, excessive drinking, and family history of oral cancer. If you have any concerns about your tissue or notice any “lumps” please bring it to our attention as soon as possible.
