We know how much everyone loves to hear the phrase “You need a root canal”. Root canals have a bad reputation but are a valuable treatment option. We will recommend a root canal when the nerve is going bad in a tooth or has already become necrotic. Inside every tooth lives both a nerve and a blood supply which nourishes the nerve. When a cavity becomes too deep in a tooth it can compromise the nerve and the blood supplying it. Sometimes this will lead to feeling pain in the tooth in the form of sensitivity to hot, cold, chewing, or random pain especially at bedtime. Occasionally teeth will become necrotic quietly and may instead be discovered on a x-ray. Teeth are funny like that, and we know patients feel things differently.
In any case if a root canal is needed, we’ll let you know and walk you through the procedure. Many root canals can be completed in our office, usually in one visit, however there are times when we’ll advise you to see one of our trusted endodontists instead. If we advise you to see a specialist it is because we strive to provide the highest quality of care.
